Fibers In Hair

Human hair is a natural fiber primarily composed of the protein keratin, which is also the main structural component of skin and nails. The visible portion of the hair, called the hair shaft, is a complex, multi-layered filament of dead, keratinized cells.

The layered structure of hair fibers

A hair fiber has three main layers:

  • Cuticle: The outermost protective layer, which consists of dead, flattened cells that overlap like shingles on a roof.
  • Cortex: The thickest layer, located just beneath the cuticle. The cortex gives hair its strength, elasticity, and color, as it contains keratin bundles and the pigment melanin.
  • Medulla: A soft, central core that is often absent in fine hair. Its function is not fully understood.

Chemical composition

In addition to keratin, hair fibers contain other elements and compounds:

  • Amino acids: Keratin is made of amino acids, particularly a high concentration of the sulfur-containing amino acid cysteine. The disulfide bonds formed by sulfur atoms in cysteine are responsible for hair’s strength and resilience.
  • Water and lipids: Water makes up about 10–15% of the hair’s composition, while lipids (fats) act as a protective barrier and contribute to hair’s shine.
  • Melanin: This pigment is produced within the hair follicle and is responsible for hair color. The two types are eumelanin (brown/black) and pheomelanin (red/yellow).
  • Trace elements: Hair can contain trace amounts of minerals like zinc, iron, and copper.

Hair building fibers

The term “hair fibers” can also refer to cosmetic products used to conceal hair loss. These products are typically made of colored powder, which is applied to the hair to create the illusion of thicker, fuller hair.

  • The fibers bind to existing hair strands through static electricity.
  • They are a temporary, cosmetic solution that washes out with shampoo.
  • These products do not treat or reverse the underlying causes of hair loss.

Finally Hair fibers

Finally Hair fibers are cosmetic hair building fibers made of natural, keratin-like materials that are applied to thinning hair to create the appearance of a thicker, fuller head of hair. These microfibers are charged with static electricity, allowing them to cling to existing hair and blend with your natural color, effectively concealing thinning areas and bald spots until they are washed out. They are a temporary solution, not a hair regrowth product, and require at least some existing hair to work effectively.

How they work

  • Static electricity: The fibers are naturally charged, causing them to adhere to your existing hair and scalp.

Adhesion:

They bond with your hair, creating volume and coverage for a natural, thick look.

Concealment:

The fibers blend seamlessly with your hair color to hide thinning areas, patchiness, and visible scalp.

Temporary solution:

Finally Hair fibers are cosmetic and wash out with shampoo, similar to makeup.

  • Finally Hair fibers are perspiration resistant
  • Finally Hair fibers are wind resistant
  • Finally Hair fibers do not clog your pores
  • Finally Hair fibers are hypoallergenic
  • Finally Hair fibers have no adverse effects since they are made from a sister of the cotton plant and are harmless
  • Finally Hair provides fibers in shaker bottles and in refill bags
  • Finally Hair fibers are very low cost compared to competitors

Key features

Anti-clump design:

They are engineered to de-clump when shaken, ensuring a smooth and even application. Finally Hair keeps their fibers in climate controlled, humidity controlled warehouses to assure freshness. The fibers have a 10 year shelf life when unopened and a 2 year shelf life when open.

Multiple colors:

Available in various shades to match any hair color for a perfect, natural finish. Finally Hair offers 23 colors including 3 salt & pepper shades and 2 gray & pepper shades.

Water and wind resistant:

They stay in place through daily activities, resisting wind, rain, and perspiration.

  • Use Finally Hair’s fiber lock spray to bind the fibers to your hair. The spray is very strong but doesn’t make the hair stiff. People report that they can lay on a pillow and hardly anything transfers to the pillow case. Finally Hair calls it their clean pillow formula.

Important considerations

  • Requires existing hair: Finally Hair fibers are not effective on completely bald individuals, as they need existing hair to cling to.

For temporary use:

The fibers do not promote hair regrowth and are designed to be a temporary, cosmetic fix.

Use with hair spray:

For best results and to lock the fibers in place, it is recommended to use a hair fiber locking spray, such as Finally Hair’s own spray or a similar strong-hold alternative. These are not spray in hair fibers. They are fibers your sprinkle onto your hair and then apply a spray to hold them in place longer.
